Russian army hits Ukrainian drone launch location

(MENAFN) The Russian military has carried out a successful strike on a Ukrainian drone launch facility in the northeastern Kharkov Region, the Russian Defense Ministry announced on Sunday. A video released by the ministry shows a powerful explosion near an airfield installation.

According to the statement, the strike eliminated all launch pads at the site, over 30 long-range kamikaze drones, and eight military vehicles. The attack was reportedly carried out using an Iskander-M ballistic missile system.

The operation comes as Russia faces a series of drone attacks on its own territory. On the same day, several military airfields across five Russian regions were targeted in a large-scale Ukrainian drone operation, which Ukrainian media dubbed “Spiderweb.”

Russia said three of the five airfield attacks were repelled without damage, while two caused aircraft fires that were quickly contained. No casualties were reported.

Earlier Sunday, Irkutsk Region in Siberia experienced its first drone strike, aimed at a military installation. Authorities said there were no injuries or significant damage.

The surge in drone warfare follows the recent destruction of two bridges near Russia’s border with Ukraine. One of the incidents caused a passenger train derailment, killing seven and injuring 71. Russian officials have labeled the bridge collapses as sabotage, blaming Kiev.
