Tokyo Heatwave Shatters Records with 10-Days Streak

(MENAFN) Tokyo endured its longest-ever stretch of extreme heat on Wednesday, marking 10 consecutive days with temperatures soaring to 35°C (95°F) or above, media reported. This unprecedented heat wave pushed the annual tally of such blistering days to 23, surpassing the previous record set in 2022, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.

On Wednesday morning, temperatures peaked at 35.3°C just after 10:40 a.m. (0140 GMT) in Tokyo’s Chiyoda ward, the agency confirmed.

Authorities strongly advised residents to protect themselves against heatstroke, emphasizing the importance of measures like using air conditioning.

This intense heatwave follows a period of severe rainfall in southwestern Japan during August, which caused landslides and disrupted transportation networks.
