Modi, Japanese Leader Launch European Visits Ahead of G7 Gathering

(MENAFN) The prime ministers of India and Japan began separate visits to Europe on Saturday, with both leaders scheduled to attend the upcoming Group of Seven (G7) summit in France.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi started a six-day European tour with a stop in France, according to official statements.

During the first phase of his trip, Modi is expected to meet French President Emmanuel Macron in Nice on Sunday. The discussions are set to cover a broad range of issues as the two sides assess and advance cooperation across multiple areas of their bilateral relationship.

The second part of the visit will take Modi to Slovakia from June 14 to 16 for an official state visit. According to reports, it will mark the first visit by an Indian prime minister to Slovakia since the country gained independence in 1993.

Modi is also scheduled to take part in next week's G7 summit alongside other world leaders.

Officials said the European tour is expected to strengthen India's ties with France and Slovakia while also enhancing engagement with G7 members.

Commenting on the trip, Modi stated that it “will reinforce India’s deepening engagement with both Europe and the G7, and showcase our steadfast commitment to expanding the horizon of our partnerships with the continent and beyond.”
