Trump Ditches 'AI' for 'Super Intelligence' in Federal Order
The order applies to official correspondence, public communications, policy documents and other non-statutory materials. Federal departments and agencies must stop using the old terms in those materials.
The order also tasks the Assistant to the President for Science and Technology with drafting a proposed federal definition of the new terms, one that reflects the “continuously advancing technological frontier.” That official must also identify any further executive actions needed to put the definition into effect.
The White House said the change is meant to acknowledge the “immense opportunity” presented by emerging technologies.
The administration argued that the United States leads the world in super intelligence and should use language that matches the capabilities and potential of the technologies under development.
It also described the country as the birthplace of artificial intelligence, saying the US has driven the technology's development and deployment for more than 70 years, since AI emerged as a field of research.
