Mahathir, 101, Hospitalized One Day After Wife of 70 Years Dies
Mahathir was admitted Tuesday to the National Heart Institute (IJN) for observation, the national news agency Bernama reported, citing his son, Mukhriz Mahathir.
His wife, Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali, died Monday at IJN. She was 100. Her condition had worsened after a heart attack, and she was buried later that same day.
The 101-year-old veteran statesman entered the same facility where his wife died just one day earlier. Together, the events mark an especially painful stretch for the family.
The couple, both doctors by training, shared a marriage that spanned seven decades and produced seven children.
